Parody of Divine Silence
« on: March 30, 2006, 04:34:33 PM »

A parody of the "Divine Silence" thread...

P1:  If God communicates with me, then it is likely God exists
P2:  God communicates with me
C:  Therefore, it is likely God exists

As Cop typed at the other thread,

"The god in question is not only supposed to have created me (with all my strengths and weaknesses), but he is also supposed to be fully aware of my state of mind and omnipotent. Given those defining aspects of the god, I would expect him to easily get past any communication problems. Is my expectation unreasonable?"

As Cop has noted at the other thread, I also realize that this position when seen by itself (God communicates with me) is just my opinion and I also realize this opinion can be traced back to another one (that being, I expect God to communicate with me, if He exists).

I also realize that I must give a non-subjective criteria for the claim "God communicates with me".  First off, I will say the same thing the atheists are saying:

"If you cannot even provide criteria for what counts as "objective evidence", then why are you demanding that I provide you with it?" (Copernicus)

They do not provide any sort of non-subjective criteria to base their conclusion off of, so why must I?  Perhaps my criteria is just as subjective as theirs (though, they don't admit this), which makes this argument of mine entirely subjective as is theirs.

However, I would still like to take this subjective argument which is based on a subjective criteria and run home to the conclusion that it is likely God exists.

A response is welcome.

Elisha, you just communicated clearly and objectively with hundreds (okay dozens) of people. You've accomplished what your omnipotent god could not. Wow.

Idiot.

Ragnar, this thread isn't about any comparison going on between me and God... you're a million miles away from the subject (probably as usual).

If you want to reply to any point I've made that are on-subject, then go ahead.  Hit-and-Run techniques in the atheist group was done only by 13 year olds, I thought?  :P

So far, my parody has stuck... where's Copernicus at?

I am sixteen not 13 year olds.  Besides  I don't even think I chatted here when I was 13.  How do you spell 13?

Until two days ago, I was in Spain.  I have no idea why you started this thread, since it adds nothing new to the discussion in the Divine Silence thread.  See my responses there.

What is new is me creating an open thread where I can stick to a main point of mine: defending the existence of a God according to subjective reasoning parallel to your own.

In the Divine Silence thread, we are debating whether or not the argument is valid seeing that it is based on that which is subjective.  In this thread I am stealing the reasoning you apply to your conclusion and applying it to my own separate conclusion.

Is this a problem?

I think this is one of those threads I just read and say nothing.

Bump.

Just like Cop is doing in the thread "Divine Silence" - that is arguing God's likely non-existence based on Cop's opinion - I am doing the same here.

Heh...

P1:  If it is my opinion that God communicates with me, therefore God is likely to exist.
P2:  It is my opinion that God communicates with me.
C:  Therefore, God is likely to exist.
