Not everyone is in Richard Dawkins' situation, where they have both tenure and the support of a world-renowned university.  Once you are tenured, that does not mean that the university can't influence your behavior.  Your office can still end up in the basement next to the coal bin.

Such is the price for standing up for what you believe in, sometimes. It all depends on whether you want to stand or whether you want to play nice.

You really shouldn't let this kind of thing bother you.  In a free society, you have to be more tolerant of speech that offends you, especially if you expect others to be more tolerant of your speech.

Also, and I could be mistaken here, but you seem to think I equate "those I disagree with" with "douchebag." Is that your assumption?

I thought Jesus meek and mild was very nice to the pharisees.  He had nothing but pleasant things to say about them.  Jesus was a diplomat of the finest ability.  He bent over backwards to make peace between rival parties, because as is well known, the kingdom he advocated was of this world.

Also, he drank Earl Grey tea.
