Gentile Rabbis?
« on: May 01, 2006, 07:39:29 PM »

Are gentiles allowed to become Rabbis?  If not, why not?  If so, how do they tend to be received/perceived by the Jewish community at large?

Gentile Rabbis?

Does anyone know the answer to this?  If not, I will do a little leg work and post what I discover.  There are three Jewish syangogues within two miles of my home, so I suppose I can ask one of the Rabbis.  They are used to (but I worry tired of) fielding my questions by now.

One of the most quoted and highly respected Rabbis was Rabbi Akiva, a convert.
A Convert. A convert is considered a Jew in (almost) every respect.
Afaik, no non-Jews have ever been ordained as Rabbis.
BTW, Rabbi Akiva died as a martyr, with words of his love for God on his lips.
