GeeGee,

I have see bits and pieces of Wafa Sutan's presentation, but thanks to you
I have had the opportunity to see it all - and to listen to her detractors.

After watching the entire video, I have only two questions.  Remember Islam is 600 years behind Christianity.

1.  Do you find any similarities between Christian desire for world domination, 600 years ago, and radical Islam today?

2.  What would you say is the common denominator between the two in their efforts for evangelization?  Even at times, it seems, best described as "world domination"?

As a person who is in the midst of this I have had many opportunities to actually speak face to face with many Muslims and those wo live here.

It saddens me to report out of all those I have spoken with all of them do not grasp the full concept of freedom. Yeah, they love the newly given freedoms of speech and redress of grievences and believe they have the human right to them. However the key word here is "they". They do not seem to grasp the concept that freedom is for all. They still hold onto the idea that freedom is good and all for them and those of like mindedness but not for other such as women or those with differing POVs.  The Sunnis want freedoms for sunnis but not shiites. The Shiites want freedoms for shiites but not sunnis, and much less for heretics and infidels and even less for women.  Granted I have a small sampling compared to the whole population of Iraq, but so far that has been my experiance with those I have had the pleasure of speaking with.  If I had to put a number on the folks I have spoken with about human rights and freedoms I would say about 20 Iraqis.

These folks did vote, under the very real threat of death, for democracy so that tells me something. Maybe that not all think and believe as those I spoke with do, or that, like Hamas,  they will use the machinery of democracy to further their agenda of "fighting the people" until all are converted to the ways of Islam.

Surprises me nobody commented or had any questions for me or the Iraqi people I work with on this.

I showed that little clip to one fella and he was honestly shocked there was an atheist Iraqi citizen.  He held the belief everyone in Iraq believed in some kind of theism. Of course he was angered by her blasphemous speech and commented her and her kind need to be ran out of Iraq.

Or silenced.

I read your post, accepted it as your interpretation based upon your experience.  I didn't think you were engaging us a discussion about Muslims and their understanding of Democracy.  In other words, I took your post as a side comment.  If you did want to share your experiences and journalistic interpretation of your findings, don't you think the Politics and Ethics thread would be more appropriate?

Ok, nevermind. Foget it, I'll go away now.

Just a side note, the title to this particular area is Christian-Jewish conversations.  Does not the whole of this thread belong elsewhere seeing the topic is primative minded muslims vs. enlightened ones? [cool

No need to depart unless that's all you wanted to say.  I agree that the original message might have best been placed elsewhere - but I tried to draw it back to Christianity and how as a collective body, it has treated  Jews over the past 2000 years.  I find Muslim hostility very similiar to Christian hostility of the past - not just to Jews, but to their fellow believers who may not agree on all the finer points of their dogmas.  In that sense, it does apply - not politically, but religiously.  And don't forget there are Christians, still to this day, who speak evil of the Jews for having killed Jesus.

See the thread "Should Jews be thanked for their rejection of Jesus?"

Hi, Harry.  You did notice that this was directed towards Shalom (Jews) and "christians"?  Not that it bothers me to hear your input..actually, as Shalom directed..I would look forward for you to create a thread elsewhere in which you can direct whats on your mind in a more "Harry" way. [biggrin

I also wondered if this person/woman was eventually silenced?

But you still bring up good points when it comes to the "christian" vs "Jew" relation.  Who wants to silence who in this religious outlook?
