Hmm...I think it's a bit overrated.  I believe the author is being rather deceptive.  I acknowledge that he admits it is fiction; however, he does claim that his fictional writing is based on facts...whereas it's really based on a very good and active imagination.

factual information in the 21st century seems to be very POV oriented.

in what way, and which "facts" do you think are conjecture?

Hmm...well just about all of them but I'm sure you'd want me to ellaborate.  Sadly, I don't have much time for detailed posts because I can only post at work; however, I would like to pursue this so if you are willing...please allow me some time to gather some organized thought on this.  This really isn't an original and is really hyped up.  There have been several other fiction books based on this same deal.  Have patience and I'll come around....

Just the fact that the Priory of Sion has an "authentic" history and "true" lineage which dates back to the times in question....but they don't feel the need to share this lineage with the public...is enough to make me raise a questioning eyebrow on any facts and opinions they come up with.

But the book was a corking good read! So was Angels and Demons!

if your interested in the factual basis of the book, read some of the books out there meant to prove the points.

The Da Vinci Code(aka "the book") was a fictitious story, based on alot of facts.  when writing a book that you need to keep the reader "hooked" into, filling it with the entire actual, factual lineage of the priory would have been a slow down in the book.

*SOME* books that Cite the book and have additional information on certain aspects can be found HERE
some more on the facts in the book can be found:
HERE(on christs lineage in france & Priory of Sion)
HERE(Godess worship)
HERE(Priory of Sion-Google search)

i would, but it would ruin the book.
not to get into specifics and ruin it, but it does contain some cool car chases, interesting puzzles, and alot about christs lineage thru mary magdalene.

corpal mortification, kinda sounds more like an S & M type rather than a religous path.

I haven't read it yet. I heard it was a very creative work of fiction filled with half truths and fictitiously bias. From those who I know who have read it including none Christians they claim it as total hype in a new concept.

The pastor at my parents church, charged the congregation to read it. Personally I have no real desire to ponder over fiction at this time and I have about 6 books ahead in line to read first and courses to take before I may be able to pick it up.

From what I understand it challenged some peoples faith to take vacations to seek out the claims made in the book. The reports that returned validated the work as fictional.

John 3:1-21

Matthew 7

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy by thy name, and by thy name cast out demons, and by thy name do many mighty works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
24 Every one therefore that heareth these words of mine, and doeth them, shall be likened unto a wise man, who built his house upon the rock:

Matthew 22

37 And he said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the great and first commandment.
39 And a second like unto it is this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
40 On these two commandments the whole law hangeth, and the prophets.

they claim it as total hype in a new concept.

it's not a new concept, it's new and different ideas and theories from newly discovered historical data.
along with the story line and family history of several families in france that have been dated back to christ's decendants.

Quote from: Self Talk
The reports that returned validated the work as fictional.

they were not looking in the right area or reading the right books then.
the STORY was ficitional, the data behind it was very much there.
