Christian group wants to ban Book of Daniel
« on: January 19, 2006, 01:50:56 PM »

Anyone watch this show, is it any good? I watched about 15 minutes at some point and it didn't hold my interest. I will give it another shot at some point though because the advertisements for the show amuse me.

Anyway, I read somewhere that some Christian group wants to ban the show because they think it is offensive to Christians. The show features a priest, Daniel, who is addicted to Vicodin and has conversations with a sarcastic Jesus. Daniel has a gay son and a daughter who got caught selling marijuana.

One of the leaders of the protesting Christian group was quoted as saying he "didn't know any Christians who were like that." Oooookay, could you be any more ignorant?

I have never seen this show you allude to, Rag boy.

One thing for this show to hold my interest, is that it should show some reality to the conditions of what it is portaying, but i do not know that since i have not viewed it.

therefore, no opinion.

Okay I watched it last night. It is on Fridays at 10 p.m. on NBC. It was very good. I think the main point of the show is despite all their many problems these are good people. My favorite scene - the daughter who was caught selling pot found an elderly friend of the family (who lives with them for some reason which I missed) smoking weed. She says she stole it from the daughter after the daughter was caught. She tried it because a nurse friend told her it might help with the pain caused by her diabetes. It does. The woman insists on paying the daughter for the pot, and the daughter says only if she lets her buy more for her. She tells her not to because it is too risky, but gives her the money anyway, so I doubt this issue is over.

Another storyline had the niece of one of the church bishops seduce the gay son in the backseat of the aunt's car. They slept together and now the son seems not a hundred percent sure that he's gay. The bishop aunt found the condom wrapper in the back seat of the car and showed it to Daniel, and told him to talk to his son. Daniel confronts his son and tells him to figure out what he is already and tell the girl if he's gay, and then tell him what he is because he'd like to know, too.

Overall, fascinating stuff. The show is like a grown-up version of Seventh Heaven. I watched for the wise-cracking Jesus, and got pulled in by the stories. I will definitely keep watching.

This show could have been good, but its not....

The concept was good, but in reality they are just trying to make a mockery of Christians and that even Christians are humans....

I don't think it was making a mockery of Christians.

Anyway, too many Christians have no sense of humor. Daniel got cancelled.

This show is not good I wish it was band. It makes complete mockery of what Christians believe. Its about a priest who is addicted to drugs whose son is gay daughter is pregnant (I think I could be wrong on that part) and a host of other things includding talking to jesus like in the show. It takes all the things the bible says is wrong and puts them on a pastors family and makes it look like it's normal, my Dad is and was a pastor (he is right now furthering his degree) I can say form expirience that is not what a pastors family looks like. Are they perfect no but they are not like that.
Interesting however that when they make a mockery of Christianity everyone passes it off but when someone makes fun of Hollywood they throw a hissy fit. Specifically you might have heard of this, South park was going to play an episode that made fun of Scientology the new Hollywood fad depicting Tom Cruise hiding in a closet and John Travolta going to get him out. Just before it aired it was pulled with a rather silly excuse. They pulled it to give some other guys show time or that was what it basically was. Its okay for hollywood to make fun of Christians or anyone else but you can't make fun of them, I am sensing a double standard. later
