A returned wallet
« on: March 15, 2009, 08:19:27 PM »

Last week I found a wallet.. it  had many dollars in it... dollars I could use to pay my many bills.

I found it on my way to work at 5 am.  Yes... I work that early.

I gave that wallet to my manager.  My manager called the guy.

What pissed me off was that this guy never told my manager to thank me .. especially for not stealing his money.

At least I was happy to live with the honesty of the situation.

A) Thanks for doing the Right Thing in returning the wallet.
  =D>

B) Judaism teaches that speaking of a good deed you did loses you any merit for the good deed. However, if you had some worthy motive, such as showing another how doing the right thing makes you feel good, that may be okay. OTOH, you could have said, "My friend found a wallet..."

You did the right thing, zag, even if you weren't thanked for it.  I thank you on behalf of all of us who have been victimized by our own foolishness in the past.  And that means all of us.

This is not the only time I found a wallet.  I came across one twenty years ago (abouts).  I flagged down the police in order to give that wallet into their custody.  The money in that wallet was China.  Kinda looked liked the game board money -monopoly - to me.   heh.

This reminds me of a moment for no reason at all.. but I want to share it.

Many moons ago my parents sent me to do an errand.. to buy some bread.  It was already dark and it was raining.  Before getting home with the bread I checked my pockets to make sure I didn't lose the change.  That was important since every cent counted due to the fact we were very poor.  I almost died... I lost some of the money somehow.  I didn't want to enter the house until I did a search.  With it being dark and with rainfall making the dirt roads into mud.. impossible task!!

I just started walking.. looking at the ground every step I took.  There was nothing to see except mud and water.  The lighting was bad... no town lights actually.  All I had for light was the moon.  It didn't take me long actually to find that two dollars I lost.  I didn't see it visually.. I just had this great big sudden urge.. like a voice saying to me.. "stop, reach down."  I did just that and in the muddy waters I found my money.  Now I could go back home and my mission was accomplished!!  :)

Just thought to share that.  haha

I don't think this is related.. maybe it is... but my 9,000 $ bill just turned into a $1,600 bill.  I took the offer and now I will be debt free in two months.  Glory to God and Him I praise.  Thank you LORD!!!!!

Problably because under Christian views nothing occurs that isn't either directly caused by God or at least has His consent. As such Christians who find themselves with wealth and privledge usually know it's only due because God wills it as no one is owed a comfortable life, and thus shouldn't take it for granted. Least that's how I was always taught. In fact taking Christian oriented buisness classes has certainly done wonders with my financial responsibility, when the over all rule is - 'You own nothing. So be responsible and appreciative in taking care of what God's lending you.'

What makes you think that God did it?

The company offered me a final settlement of 5600 hundred dollars and this was their final offer to me.  Take it or leave it they said.  If I refused then they would no longer offer this settlement and continue collecting the full sum.  I said I couldn't do it.

A week later they called back and said they would settle for 3500 hundred dollars.  They said this 3500 dollar settlement would be their final offer.  Again there was no way I could do this.  I rejected this offer.

But the strange thing is I dreamt about this offer of 3500 comming to the table.

Lo and behold.. the offer I dream't came about????

GOD??  To me yes.. to you not.

What matters is the wonderful experience that has happened.

Do others go through this without giving God the glory?  Maybe.. but I'm Christian and I give God the glory and praise HIM for this.

Did God do this? .. you ask.  Of course I believe this.

You asked a question and I answered.  :)

Ps.  When they offered me this 3000 + settlement.. and I rejected it my spouse got soooo pissed off she gunhounded them into a 1600 dollar settlement and they agreed.  WOW!!

Umm, is this an outstanding debt that you have had for sometime that a debt collecting agency bought out from another company?

If so, what I believe happens is the original company sells your debt at pennies on the dollar because they don't want to continue to tie up resources going after your deadbeat ass.

It is then common practice for the second company to offer lower amounts to be paid off, since they are still making a profit. God has nothing to do with it.

Congrats on weaseling your way out of a nine grand debt

Just a tidbit of info... IF you paid attention to other threads much earlier on then you would have not written that I was not "weaseling" my way out of anything and I was no "deadbeat ass".  After my emergency surgery.. I obviously could NOT earn money.  I guess if you like calling that "deadbeat ass" then fine.  Not mad.  Just sad for you.  And I didn't weasel my way out of anything.. the offer came to me.. I didn't offer anything.

I'm not trying to make you look like an A$$   YOU did that fine and dandy all by yourself.
