This video almost converted me
« on: November 27, 2008, 05:09:55 PM »

I can almost believe that God programmed in Lisp Code. Infinite recursion is possible if you can just get past the bounding cases.

It isn't just cute.  It's brilliant.  But there is a lot of allegory in there that non-geeks will never get.  For example, the flesh of sparrows getting reclaimed refers to Lisp's incredibly good garbage collection algorithms.  [smile

My favorite verse:

And when I watch the lightning burn unbelievers to a crisp
I know God had six days to work so he wrote it all in Lisp
Yes.  God had a deadline, so he wrote all in Lisp.

Lisp can be an unbelievably compact and efficient language.  You can often create fairly complex programs that other programming languages take longer to write and debug.

"Lisp can be an unbelievably compact and efficient language.  You can often create fairly complex programs that other programming languages take longer to write and debug."

Cop, you know that the main shortcomings of Lisp are that it:

1.  Unable to penetrate the space-time continuum and transport me back to 45 seconds ago, thereby sparing me the horror you and some sort of joan baez/nerd hybrid ruthlessly unleashed upon my unsuspecting virgin ears.

2.  got a gay name.

You've done me dirty yet again old friend, and I'm sure the pleasure was all yours.  And to think you dogged sj for liking billy joel.   For shame...

I dogged SJ for liking Billy Joel?  I don't recall that.  Hey, I like Billy Joel!

That's OK, David.  I understand.  All us atheists look alike, except that some of us like Billy Joel and some of us don't.  Myself, I also like Joan Baez.  A lot.  And I'm not homophobic, either.  ;)

Not me, my friend.  I also like ABBA.  Surely, you like ABBA, don't you?

I know that I've heard a song or two by ABBA on account of the radio guy saying, "And that was ABBA!" but apart from that I don't know their music and cannot even at this moment name an ABBA song.  I can however belt out a chorus of Uptown Girl without urging.  Which is probably the worst thing to belt out if you are not a tenor.

You would doubtless like ABBA, if you gave them a chance.  And it sounds like the music would be suited well to your voice.  I suggest that you start out with something like Dancing Queen.  That one was made for heavy belters.

ABBA or A(two b's backwards)A are totally cool.  Surely you can't be an informed "christian" not liking ABBA??

Billy Idol??  Well, can live without him  :)

Again... cute.  I don't position this as high as cop would hope to the level of brilliance.  But this is getting very subjective now.  Now how cute is subjectiveness???  Cute the thought is.  :)

Sheesh, I leave for a little while and the forum turns into a debate over Billy Joel and ABBA???

 :?

And now, thanks to Cop I'm going to have "Dancing Queen" stuck in my head the rest of the night.  [smile

It could be worse, rare.  You could have "Uptown Girl" stuck there.  ;)

I love Billy Joel and I like Joan Baez. I hate Abba. I was forced to sit through Mama Mia because that is what the rest of my family chose to do for my grandmother's 85th birthday. Now THAT was hell. During intermission I paid about 20 dollars to quickly down two shots and a beer just so I could get through the second half without killing someone.
