Karma - Reincarnation
« on: July 26, 2005, 09:39:31 PM »

What do you think about this sort of thing?  When Jesus alluded to John the baptist as Elijah, was He thinking of the idea of reincarnation?

IF this is a truth, what would be the purpose of it?

Juadism allows for reincarnation. Specifically, a Jew who falls into apostacy will be, upon death, reincarnated as a Gentile, and convert to Judaism.
John the Baptist denied he was Elijah.

I sort of thought, nojc, that you may be the first to respond to this thread.  I thank you.  I am now beginning to see how truth matters to you and I appreciate that...really!!

But can we call reincarnation truth?  This I hope to discover.  At this point, I find myself not totally rejecting this idea.  There may be clues in what christians call the O/T and N/T about such a thing.  I think that Paul may have hinted at such a thing in some of his writings.  But I really do not want to argue if Paul, John, Jesus, etc were fictatious or liars or..etc, etc.

But, heck, who am I kidding, eh?  Did John really deny that he was Elijah?  If someone, with authority(???), came to you nojc, and said that your previous life was so and so...I wonder what you would think to such a claim?

Actually, I've told you all I know on the subject already.

But I really do not want to argue if Paul, John, Jesus, etc were fictatious or liars or..etc, etc.

I hear, and I obey.  :)

If someone, with authority(???), came to you nojc, and said that your previous life was so and so...I wonder what you would think to such a claim?

Depending on the validity of the "authority", I might.
My wife already told me several times that she believes we were lovers in a previous life. She claims she has had dreams that we were slaves in America's youth, and we were violently parted.
I don't think I believe her, but I believe she's sincere.

Sounds to me like your wife really loves you. :P

My wife believes that we existed previously, somehow...but doesn't really know how.  And she keeps making the claim that we both were meant to be together.  I smile!

While I await other comments, I will gather some scriptures (and possible other sources) which prevents me from totally disregarding this karma and reincarnation idea.

But please share on why Judaism allows for reincarnation.  What scriptures do they use?

Reincarnation is true. Really! It has the evidence as a reality as any other supernatural belief. Besides I offer witness by testimony!

In my previous life I was a Dung Beetle! Ahhh... now that was the life!  I remember how all my needs were met so simplisticly. Everything I needed , housing, food, activity etc. all found within a simple hunk of dung.

Oh the hours I would enjoy rolling that dung into neat balls and building my home out of it. It would serve me well as a shelter until I ate it. How conveinant that was! No forging nessasary after completing my home! Just sit back and munch the walls!

AND not much forging needed to build the next one! I mean, c'mon, how far do you need to go before finding a pile of nice, fresh, steamy dung?!

This is my testimony to reincarnation and it shall serve as evidence for the reality of such. It has been said here on this site that testimony can serve as evidence! So no one can say there exists no evidence for reincarnation. 8)

Okay.  Now we have Harry's dung story.  If there were other serious stories like it...then I would be more serious in considering it.  lol.  Give me more witnesses (testimonies)!!! :P

But to get back to my first question.

What about John the baptist and what Jesus said bout him?  I expected more, or at least "hoped" for more responses from the "christian" side of this issue...what they thought Jesus meant when He made this statement about John.

Although Nojc may give his objections to any NT writings, at least he concedes that the "Jews" give allowance for this.

Dung BEETLE story!! Dung BEETLE!

My story was not Dung! Nor was I a piece of Dung!  It was a testimony of my previous life as a Dung BEETLE.

Sheeez.....

WHoa guys reicarnation is not true. the bible does not say that people have been reicarnated so therefore it does not happen. Plus the Bible says when you go to hevan or hell you stay there no one comes back to be reborn.
GG what passage are you refering to. If at any point the bible does allude JB to Elijah it's not reincarnation I think it has to do with the fact that
1. they were Prophets
2. they both shook things up in Isreal
3. they both spoke with God
4. major points in history
an allusion is more simmalarities, it does not mean that ellijah was reicarnated. So no Elijah was not reincarnated and reicarnation does not exist.
